Lady Moon by Rebecca Lemon

Lady Moon by Rebecca Lemon

This piece is one of a series that seems to have taken on a cosmic scale while I wasn’t paying

attention. “Lady Moon” seems to be somewhat astonished as she gazes at her companion Earth.

My masks are portraits of the various elemental life forces that populate nature, mythology, and folklore. Sometimes they also reflect my state of mind.

This white stoneware mask was fired in reduction with underglaze and glaze, and is wired to be mounted on the wall. When fired in reduction, the glazes pull oxygen from the clay body and the glaze chemicals, resulting in an almost magical transformation that is never completely predictable.
